Swan Song

The Swan Song was written by my grandfather (may he rest in peace) and I would like to share this song (I’m not really sure if it’s a poem or a song) to you guys… He wrote this years and years ago (maybe during the 1940’s) and I just tried to decipher it a few minutes ago with my dad which gave me a terrible headache..

When I have crossed the bar my dear
Shed no sad tears for me
Just let me lie where you are near
Then sweet my trip will be

Just with warm kisses my lips smear
Just tighten your embrace
For when I’m gone your kisses dear
You never can replace

When my eyes close in profound sleep
And my heart throbs no more;
When sunbeams no longer will creep
In this dear life, no more

Just let me dream the dream I fear
The thing I dread so long
For I was born not for you dear
To Him all lives belong

Oh darling, never mourn my fate
Nor weep when I depart;
And harbor no sorrows so great
Deep in your wounded heart

So when I’ve crossed the bar my dear
Wail no sad song for me
Just let me rest at your sigh dear
Then no aches I’ll forsee

Goodbye then no more I can tell;
My life is ebbing thus:
Just share me prayers so farewell
My dear fellows, adieu

He’s been saying farewell to the world for the last how many years through this song… While I was typing it, I cannot help but shed tears. I will truly miss my grandfather…. Even though for the last few months of his lift he couldn’t even remember my name, and not to mention who I was… But I don’t care. I love him no less. He had always been my birthday-buddy since we only had a day separating our birthdays… And he was the very first one who taught me how to drive when I was like 4 years old… (the steering wheel, I mean).

Please pray for his soul and that may he rest in peace with everyone else…. I know he is in a much better place now… And he will always be there to look after us. Love you lolo….
