Macintosh and my dad

macintosh-and-my-dad

I haven’t been online for the couple of days and thus less blogging… I still don’t have internet connection at my place so I’m still trying to connect to our school whose internet keeps on disconnecting…

Anyways, last weekend, my dad (with my entire family actually) went to the city not only to help my little sister fix her stuff at her college dorm, but also to do a little shopping…

While my mom, my little sister, and I went to a mall in the business district of the country, my dad was left behind in a Mac store. Then, I learned that he went to another mall a bit far from the business district but near my sister and my college.

After the whole shopping spree with my mom and sister, well all retired to Starbucks and waited for my older sister with her husband and my dad. Then, when they came, guess what I found out… He bought a MacBook Pro (one that I wanted last year the time I got my own MacBook), AND an iMac. Boy does my dad have money… @@

I tried out the iMac today cause I was supposed to create a video for my grandfather for Father’s Day; hopefully it won’t be his last… :, It has a large screen and I am very happy with it… But, the large screen it’s that endearing anymore, especially when you sit in a low chair and it stands in a higher table… It feels like it’s gonna fall!! -.-

The screen is big alright, but the wireless keyboard is SO small!! @@ And, I like the mouse… XD I officially want to have a mighty mouse!! XD I thought before that it would be a waste of money since I already have a mouse.. But then again, I changed my mind when I found out what it could do… XD

While my dad and I were setting up the iMac a while ago as I returned home from the city, we were talking about the .mac accounts and the Apple Protection Plan… He told me that I didn’t have to worry about the .mac account and iWorks cause he bought a Family pack of both which contained 5 licenses!! WHOOOTT!! XD How I longed for iWorks!!! XD I am SO happy that my dad decided to do that and maybe I am happy that he decided to buy two macs since I can use the iMac for a lot of stuff… XD And he’s gonna pick them up tomorrow!! XD

As for my grandfather, we are still hoping for the best. He currently has abdominal aneurism where a main vein in his stomach is about to pop if we don’t do something about it. I heard from my dad that they are still going to see if he is still capable of the operation.. I am hoping that he will still be able to live long enough for Alex to remember him.. If not, even just until I graduate from college next year… I want him to be there… Just to see me graduate… Just to see him there looking at me as I march will be fine… I miss him so much right now… Now that I realize that he’s a bit old for his age… And that we are just trying our very best to keep him company, to make him happy…

I can’t even imagine New Year without him… He’s the one who usually makes all the noise with his drumming… Ever since I was a child, it’s been his job to do all the drumming while we run around the place picking up as much coins as we can… I can’t imagine my birthday without him… Ever since I was little, it had always been a joint birthday between us since our birthday is a day apart… We always had one party… And he used to teach me a lot of things… I sure miss all those days…

I wish, he can stay longer… I wish his heart would can still sustain the operation and still survive…

CPU went bye-bye

Posted on February 8, 2008

I don’t know what happened and I don’t know what the real problem is… All I know is that my CPU really needs to be change… It needs to finally retire after I had harassed it way too much during my 3 years in college.. Not to mention it wasn’t even mine before… So even before that, it had been harassed by my older sister (knowing her, she doesn’t know how to take care of any thing that has to do with computers… She kept on complaining before about her laptop and wanting to throw it away because it was malfunctioning…. Due to her fault, possibly… Anyway…) While I was playing some music as I was cleaning my part of the room - or at least my stuff, it suddenly hung-up and when I restated it, red and blue screens showed. I restarted it once again only to find a result of nothing in the monitor. But the OS starts up… But, I couldn’t turn the darn thing off… Trying my monitor, I plugged it into my laptop… It works alright… So my problem lies in the CPU… Sigh…

I had walked around before canvasing for a brand new CPU… But then again, I couldn’t really trust outside shops because most of the CPU’s we got from outside shops (shops around the area) were all malfunctioning… We usually only trust one technician who is a family friend… We usually get computer parts or a whole computer from him although for a higher price… But it is definitely worth it because you’ll rarely see any bugs from your computer… And, you get to have to contact him as easy as a dial in our phones….I really need a new one..

I hope that even before this term ends I could have a new one… I’ll set aside buying a Sony PSP or a Nintendo DS for a while… I need my CPU more that anything (except my laptop  )

Iomega MiniMax 500GB

Posted on December 10, 2007

Just a few days ago, my mom asked me what Christmas present I wanted. Of course, I would tell her something that I WANT and NEED. And that is an external hard drive for my laptop because I am running out of space, plus, I need to have my laptop dual booted for the sake of thesis which starts next year by the end of May. She told me to look for one and tell her the price. And I did as soon as I got the time with Vinno to actually go to a mall after our hell of a week.

Searching and searching, we landed at Power Mac Center at Greenbelt 3, Makati City - where I usually buy my laptop accessories since it is the only Mac Center near… And the first external hard disk that I saw was the Iomega MiniMax which has 500GB memory, 3 USB ports which can serve as hubs, 2 Firewire 400 ports which can also serve as hubs. Next best thing about it is that it is stackable with a Mac Mini… Meaning it is as wide as a Mac Mini - not that I planned on buying one but the space that it occupies is what I first thought about. 500GB, 250GB for Windows, and another 250 as additional hard disk for my Mac, not bad, right…?

That’s what we thought until we saw the price… It was Php 14,000 (roughly around $300) Well, I can’t actually expect something cheaper, right…? So anyway, I told my mom about it when we were off to SM to shop. And she was like, “What!” That’s when I explained to her about the other hard drives out there that are MORE expensive than this. I don’t know what she thought about next… But the next day (which was just yesterday morning) my dad went into my room and asked me about the hard drive. And yeah… Typical dad’s… Looks like they’re not giving it to me this Christmas… Even though I needed it…. Sigh… Guess I’ll just have to save enough money for it… Vinno said that they MIGHT surprise me though… I don’t know…

Here’s an image of the MiniMax 500GB which looks just like a Mac Mini… Got it straight from Iomega-asia

And so that is it… I hope I have enough money before the start of our 4th year in college… Sigh…
